Firstly - Obviously I know there are few problems out there in the big wide world at the moment, but....

I bought a couple of text books from Bookdepository.com on 6th April.

They dispatched it (from the UK) on 17th April.

So its coming up to a month to be in transit. They do have warning that they have "have had to extend our usual estimated delivery times to 15-30 days".

Anyone else been buying books from Bookdepository in the UK over the last 6-8 weeks?

I purchased a couple of books from BD which shipped on the 23rd of April but haven't arrived yet. Thought it would be good to have something to read in lockdown. Not my best idea.

This can really just join the multiple other threads regarding shipping issues.

In all seriousness getting any goods around the world right now is a major nightmare due to the massive reduction in flights and freight costs that have sky rocketed. Shipping times even for premium services such as DHL have blown out from days to weeks.

I ordered two books on 6 April.  One arrived about a week ago.  Still waiting on the other.  The shipping delays were pretty clearly signposted on their site.

I have a book from this outfit that has been underway for a month now and has not yet arrived. Good to know there are others in the same position.

Regardless who/where/what you purchased, there is likely to be delays - yes, some a month or more. The worlds been a bit crazy lately if you havent noticed, and someone ordering something online is not a priority.

Yes, Im probably having a rant.

There is hope! We received one of two book depository books yesterday, it took just on a month to arrive. Will see how long the second one takes.

IMO, the COVID crisis has basically upended the model of shops like Book Depository and NZGameshop that previously probably relied on untracked (for sure) and the cheapest airmail options available to provide their "free" shipping. When they weren't collecting GST, hadn't upped their prices in response to the previous drop in the NZ dollar, and there wasn't a crisis that basically means that a 4 week delivery timeframe can be considered miraculously quick, they had some genuine advantages. But during moments of crisis like this one, people might well favour actually reliably getting hold of what they want. At least give BD some credit -- they are honest and upfront about the shipping delays whereas NZGameshop is still claiming that "normal" delivery is 6 to 12 working days.

Also don't forget that NZ Customs is also working at a slower pace. Lots of people are reporting tracked items that are sitting for over a week at NZC before they are cleared.

So an update.

My books turned up yesterday. So around 36 days for shipping (from the date of dispatch).

Probably a miracle they got here at all...
