Hi all,

Could anyone tell me what a fair ballpark price would be for cleaning the windows in my three bedroom single storey house?

I have already requested a couple of quotes and am waiting to hear back from them, but I have never had this done before so I have no idea what to budget for.

Not really sure, but when I have this sort of question I always tend to think "What would I have to buy to do this myself; how long would it take me if I do it myself; how much is my time worth; how much would I dislike doing it myself; Can I even do it myself?"

Add all those components together, and consider that the people doing it have to earn a living too, and often rates that people knee-jerk balk at seem more reasonable ;-)

We paid $235 for gutter cleaning and $100 for window cleaning from a company called Jet-X / All Star Property Services in Wellington (which has since changed owners). First time they came they cleaned the gutters and left the gutter contents all over the house cladding, windows and around the house, and the gutters weren't that clean. They came back to fix still did a pretty poor job of cleaning the gutters, cleaned off the house, and didn't wipe down the windows so they have water marks all over them.

I wouldn't bother having windows cleaned professionally unless they were really really dirty and you can't do it yourself. A hose and house washing brush and you can do the same job yourself in an hour for a standard house.

20 odd years ago in Queenstown I would have charged around a couple of hundred for inside and out.  I would not have left squeegee marks and it probably would have taken about 3 hours.

My folks been quoted $250 for their place in Auckland - quite a number of windows - mostly single storey, but a few at 2nd storey height (house on slope).
