I read http://www.labour08.co.nz/Meet%20Helen%20Clark and it says there that Helen Clark is the first woman to be elected to the job (as Prime Minister). But how bout Jenny Shipley? Was she not elected?

Although Jenny Shipley is New Zealand's first woman Prime Minister, she was in fact never elected, and instead replaced Jim Bolger in 1997.
