Just wondering what other peoples favourite horrors are? I found out while watching The strangers the other half is scared of mask movies, but is absolutley fine with your normal run of the mill horror.. So im trying to track down some other good mask horrors (or just general good horrors), anyone have any other suggestions? apart from the obivous freddy and jason movies etc unless theres a particulary good one (ive seen a few freddy, jason, halloween etc movies as a kid and wasnt scared then so havnt got high hopes..)

Anyways heres a list of some of my recent favourite horrors:
Hills have eyes (2006)
Texas chainsaw massacre: The new beginning (2007)
The Strangers (2008)
Saw 1 (2005)

I remember seeing that on tv way back when.. that clown terrorised me.. i recall a scene where he grabs a kid through a stormwater drain.. As stated on the imdb forum, i thought the second half was a bit of a let down too, but i was all of 10 so i might have to revist this one.

Its not as shocking as modern horrors (which need more and more gore to stay popular), but it is a really good movie in its own right.

Scared the wits out of me when I was a young'un.

You may not call all of these horror's as such, since they're not all gore-fests but they all have plenty of tension nonetheless:

28 Days Later
28 Weeks Later
30 Days of Night
1408
Bogeyman
Cabin Fever (A favorite of Peter Jackson)
Close Your Eyes
Dawn of the Dead (Zack Snyder Dir.)
Resident Evil
Saw 1
Seven
Perfect Creature
Pitch Black
The Descent
The Final Destination Trilogy (huge fun)
The Ring
Thirteen Ghosts
Underworld
Underworld Evolution
The Orphanage (Spanish version, superb movie)
Severance (more black comedy than horror, but next time your employer suggests a "Team Retreat" you'll think twice).
REC (Spanish, also soon to be released in English as "Quarantine")

Enjoy

Not a horror fan but I think the Eye might fit your bill.

tonyhughes: It (1990)

I remember seeing this on VHS back when I was about 7. I was the only one watching it really, as the two teenagers I was with were hiding behind the couch they were so scared :)

Ahhh, the days when we were so young and innocent...

freitasm: The Exorcist
Poltergeist
The Return of the living dead

Me thinks you are showing your age thereTongue out

Good choices though, all excellent movies. The exorcist would have to be my all time favourite. I was too young to see it when it came out in the 70's but my parents remember going to see it at the "pictures" as they were called then and people were being sick, feinting, leaving early etc.

Session 9 scared the heck outa me... also The Strangers, excellent film, based in (but not really on) reality, so even more creepy.

Steven King's Dreamcatcher is meant to be horror, but when you watch it with a group of mates it became halarious.
