As per :

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/so-long-jack-reacher-why-lee-child-is-handing-over-the-series-to-his-brother/XC5FFLI2XZYTLPRMNXCKRNCP4Q/

He will hand the reigns off to his 14 year younger brother after a period of shared writing which starts with the next book released next month.

I was surprised at the length and detail of this article and was about to commend the Herald for it's first decent bit of writing in some time before I read at the bottom it was taken from the Times of London.

I really hope they can get this done well. I have read every annually released novel released by Child and whilst he does appear to have lost his way in recent times compared to earlier work, the last book was a bit better.

I had pleasure in meeting Lee Child in Auckland a few years ago and was totally stunned when he asked my name and then asked me if I was the guy he had interacted with in his forums a few months earlier. Was very cool!

I think his brother has already co-written a book with him, can't remember what though.

This was announced months ago - nine months ago to be truthful (The Guardian). The NZ Herald is just a bit slow to the news.

Oh well, it was big news to me. I thought it might interest other people who didn't know. :)

On the same genre, I've actually preferred reading the 'John Milton series' by Mark Dawson recently.

Worth a look if you haven't tried.  His writing style develops noticeably from the initial book

I thought Lee Child had wanted to stop ages ago around book 10. There was a stage where Reacher was not only jumping the shark, he was adding a backward triple somersault. The publishers didn't want the gravy train to end and persuaded him to keep going. I don't know if the storylines settled down afterwards as I'd moved on.

I'll take a look as I am always after page turners. Not that I have time to read as much any more.

I usually take release day off work and finish the books in a single sitting or nearabouts, or, at least I used to before kids.

I agree the reading level of Child's books seem to be about 11 years old. I quickly tired of them with his constant repetition of his favourite catch phrases.

So many better books out there

So there will be the publishers gravy train of 'Lee Child with (tiny writing of actual author - his brother)' books.  Like Wilbur Smith, James Patterson etc

Amen. My recollection of the one Jack Reacher novel I’ve read was a cliche-ridden noir-lite-lite pot-boiler that could have potentially be written by a computer programme. For me these are books to find in a holiday home and read while on summer holiday, but no more.

Cheers! I have most his Books in Hard Cover (and some of them are signed!) but I rarely read paper books anymore, kindles are more convenient, smaller, lighter and don't tear :) Also, I can carry 1000 books with me whereever I go.

I used to read his books but to be honest I have forgotten which one I last read so I have not re-started!

Catch phrases annoy me. I have an excellent memory for them and I find it tremendously irritating to see the same words and phrases repeated. It's as if the author believes his readers have the attention span of a goldfish and will have forgotten that he used the same description just 10 pages ago!

There was a series of science fiction books that I was enjoying but in the end the persistent use of irritating descriptors made me stop reading them There was one character always referred to as "the rogue" so every page you would get "The rogue turned to her and said", "She looked at the rogue and wondered what he was thinking" etc etc.

It became too maddening to continue.

This requires an active library card I guess?

Yes and a bit of fiddling to get them onto kindle via Adobe digital editions and Calibre.
