Good on them its a pity more bands did not do the same.
The who ticket scheme is a complete rip off and should be regulated to stop all the gouging.

I love how the article talks about promoter "Live nation" and ticket seller "Ticketmaster" as if one was not aware of what the other was doing....
The are all part of the same company... in 2010 those two entities merged to form "Live Nation Entertainment,"
They say its a scheme to discourage scalpers. What a load of crap!
I remember looking at Ticketmaster for U2 tickets last year when they went on sale. It wasn't possible to select tickets because the website was so bogged down, and around 2 mins after initial sales started they were all sold out - however immediately looking at Ticketmaster resale there were plenty of tickets on there.
It's all a big scam.
The problem with that is some people have a legitimate need to on-sell tickets to recover costs if they can't attend. We need to make it illegal to on-sell at higher than face value.
It's schemes like this that make the likes of Viagogo look good (and they aren't good in anyone's books)

Just introduce a law requiring the ticket issuer to buy back tickets sold and no longer required. THEY can then resell them.

This.

Should we just ban the resale of any goods or services at the same time? If not, why not?
There were accusations that Ticketmaster or whatnot were moving "new" tickets, into the resale area to fetch a higher price for them as well.

Because fewer people complain about them?
Personally, I do not care if the tickets are a million dollars each; I am merely offering suggested methods of remediating an issue that many people seem to find to be in need of remediation.

This.
As I said above, requiring the ticket agency to refund the buyer and then having them onsell the returned tickets again at face value solves that issue.
The solution is far more simple
I we all could all just Stop buying tickets for more than the original price.
Its market driven.
We are the issue, not the scalpers . Just say no .
I do like it when a concert doesnt sell out and scalpers get caught out with a mass of tickets they need to sell at a loss .
Its a good point mentioned above, if we make ticket scalping illegal, then why not ban profits on anything anyone ever sells ? I'd never considered that .

Takes me back to 4 July 1990. Rolling Stones at Wembley Stadium. Just so happened that England - Germany world cup semi-final was on the same night. Face value tickets were about £20 - £25. My mate Boz and I went down at about 3 in the afternoon and got tickets off a tout for £12 each. 30 minutes before the start of the show they were trying to get rid of them for £2.50 a pop.
It was great.
Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
