I saw there was 10% off site wide on The Market so thought I'd finally upgrade and get an iPhone from Noel Leeming. All was going well, on the item's page they offer the 10% code below the add to cart button, but at checkout it rejected the code. In the fine print it says excludes Apple, among many other things.

I considered this misleading, why offer the code on the item's page if you can't use it, or am I being unreasonable?

It’s down to interpretation - 10% off site wide is not 10% off every single item being sold. It’s more that the coupon can be used across many properties on the site.

regardless, it’s a failed suggestion - I thought it was 10% everything, and it clearly isn’t - and while you can go argue with Noel Leeming group and probably, eventually win, it’s too late for your needs right now.

Although they dump it there, it seems to be because it is a site wide change. And can't distinguish what they excluded it from.

However theres always *T&C

It's false and misleading.

End of story.

The site says "T&Cs apply" just below the "+ extra 10% of sitewide". I found that easy to follow.

IANAL. But in this case as per the OPs screenshot, it lists the coupon with the relevant details for this particular product. So if I visited the page, I think that I would initially expect it to apply to this product. I understand important information can't be hidden on a  t&cs page. But if you click on the yellow coupon on an iphone product page, the only term on it is the minimum spend of $1 at *Minimum spend excludes shipping and alcohol products. Doesn't mention apple. Also can't see anywhere else on the page where it says it excludes apple? Where does it mention that it excludes Apple?

I would expect them to remove the coupon code on any product pages it didn't apply to, if it doesn't apply to iphones. I wonder why they haven't done this, or whether it is  human error or bad web design?.

Having a further look it appears the other excluded items (alcohol, R18 games etc) do not display the code on the product page. I'm going to blame it on poor web design/carelessness that its been left on the page.

On the plus side its stopped me from spending $1k+ this weekend, for now...

If they cant not show the promo on a product page that it doesn't apply to, they shouldn't show it at all.

Lazy or useless web development. I hope they get warned for this. Fine print cant take away what the big print offers, and thats a pretty clear offer of 10% on that phone.

They are also advertising zip on a product that it cant apply to as well, which again is lazy useless web development.
