I have just had a bad experience seeking justification for the removal of my listing for a HP Mini Note 2133 Notebook.

In my auction I stated that I will not reformat the PC, and restore to factory settings. I have also said in my auction I did not have the operating system discs, and as such will sell the notebook without any recovery disc. TradeMe took this statement and surmised that I had illegally installed Windows XP on the laptop. By the way, I have clearly stated that "The laptop has a Certificate of Authenticity attached to it", but I'm not sure which part of it they do not understand.

I fail to understand why TradeMe still do not know or acknowledge that more notebooks *DO NOT* have an optical drive, and hence manufacturers generally *DO NOT* include recovery discs or the operating system discs with them.

Also, the customer service agent to replied to me claim that by not having a media, and my refusal to reformat the laptop back to its factory state is a breach of their contract because they say it's piracy. OMGWTFBBQ! If not having a media is indeed a breach of Microsoft's license agreement, I'm very very surprised to find a renowed retailer like PlayTech selling Office 2007 licenses WITHOUT media!!! (The same is true for Dick Smith, selling licenses for Office without media)

I'm downright frustrated, and they are threatening to close my TradeMe account if I tried to relist the auction.

By the way, if anyone is interested, I am still selling my HP Mini Note 2133 for ~$650. Mine is the higher end model with 1.6GHz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB 7200RPM Hard Drive, and a 6-cell battery.

Arghh...

First point - TradeMe needs to understand technology a little bit better. Often computers now don't even come with recovery CDs.

Second point - medialess Office etc is totally legal. Companies can sell the licence key only. Completely within the rules.

Just get back in touch with them and get it escalated to the csr manager, once he veto's you get it escalated to his manager, and so on and so forth. eventually they will come around....i know a few ppl that work there at varying levels - this sort of stuff often happens and all it takes is a bit or persistence.

For a business entirely based around the internet you'd think they would.

One thing that annoys me which isnt really their fault is that it seems acceptable to sell a 2.4ghz quad core processor as 9.6ghz. Obviously a load of rubbish and many of the sellers know its false advertising but trademe doesn't do anything about it, such as giving an option for specifying the number of cores.
