Anyone had anything like this recently?

Dear friend,
There are few channels to deliver the goods to your country recently.
You need to add 20$ for shipping. If you are not willing to pay, I will cancel the order for you.
If you are willing to pay, there is my PayPal account: sonoffswitch@163.com
If you have paid, could you take a screenshot and send it to me?
Best regards!

Nope, it sounds like the trade/purchase didn't go their way or they've forgotten to add appropriate charges to post to NZ

I've made a few very recent purchases from the US and China and not had any such response

Postage at US$3 was included as was GST which would infer they were aware it was for NZ.

I've never had this, but I know many sellers on AliExpress have 'products' that are just extra charges for shipping to remote areas etc.

I would instruct them cancel the order and keep a written record of it. If you don't cancel, they may send you something (i.e. a fake tracking number), meaning you will have to wait until the dispute window opens, and you may then have to argue that you didn't receive something which is shown as sent/delivered.

EDIT: eBay collects GST, not the seller.

The GST charge comes from eBay itself - they are passing the tax based on your location. The seller has no part in this. I was inferring that perhaps they had entered $3US for postage without specifying something higher for NZ when they were selling

Quite common now, as the cheap services will refuse delivery as they have a backlog as it is.

Ive given up on ebay and aliexpess shopping for now. bang good and gear best are working ok mostly, but I have had one thing cancel on me with one of them (cant recall which right now) - others are all coming thru ok.

Also on aliexpress many sellers only have the $15-20 options to get stuff to NZ, they are probably up with the current situation on shipping, ones with free or sub $2 options are still thinking that its working to here, and will cancel or ask for more money.

Has anyone come across import charges being added on, as a separate fee to shipping fees?.  On my ebay order said import fees includes custom fees in the popup info link , next to the 'import fees'. But then in the actual fine print of the  terms it says that it may not include custom fees, so it isn't clear. I have just ordered something over $400 myself, and the shipping plus import charges are over $150 NZ. So if customs try to charge a fee too, I will send them a screenshot showing that Ebay have already charged me all import fees including custom fees. I wonder what they will then do. I think it seems a bit of a mess. I would buy from NZ, but no retailer stocks or imports what I am needing.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but I'm sure I read somewhere that if the item value was over $1000 NZD they would leave the customs fees for you to pay direct when the item comes in - though that might have just been another website's policy

I'd expect that fee to cover customs & duty in it

GST, IEFT and customs charges are not charged on imports under $1000  - so even if eBay wasn't charging these then Customs wouldn't be collecting them. For everything under $1000 it is assumed that the foreign retailer is collecting the applicable fees.

Yep this is a known scam on Aliexpress, no reason why it shouldn't happen on Ebay too.

I just completed a purchase on eBay and it wasn't shipped until the Lunar New Year festivities were over - and I thought I might get thrown with it as the item had free postage on it attached but it shipped without a hitch.....
