Its that time of year to renew policies so I check the market like for like

Tower have come out $200 less of $2.5K worth the policies (house, contents and car) and the incumbent surprisingly have policy of no price reduction to keep a customer

Has anyone had good or bad experiences with Tower?

I found they don’t offer liability insurance for Reno’s which was a gotcha for me. Had to cancel my house insurance and go back to state so I could apply for building insurance. The claims process on one of the cars was great with tower. We even got to to go to a decent panelbetter not the forced one state makes you go to.

Can't comment specifically on Tower, but if you are moving your house policy, double and triple check that they will take it on. Insurance companies have got very picky about the risk around houses (not to mention quadupling the premiums) these days.

They have been fine for us. One house claim was settled no problem.

All thank you for your replies

Note I see Tower (who under write Trademe and who our car is with) were one of the few who provided a refund as a result of Covid-19 lockdown so that is a good look

The reason it seems Tower are currently competitive is due to a $50 join incentive and 20% if you have all policies with them

Batman: Iirc some tower customers are still fighting them over the chch earthquake in 2011

Did any insurance companies not fight with their customers over claims?! (or did some come out looking good?)

Interesting Tower got 42.1 million from EQC after a settlement you can read that here

Maybe that had something to do with it?

iirc only tower keeps showing up in the news for refusing to pay. there are page after page of lawsuits from those who can afford, those who can't afford didn't get money

I chose Tower when I bought a second hand car around 18 months ago. Had always been with State prior to that but felt they were starting to gouge me with ever increasing price hikes. For example, I have another vehicle that I've had for almost 20 years and have never made a claim on, yet State's 3rd party/fire/theft premium now amounts to 20% of the value of the car. I cancelled the policy as that car hasn't left my property in around 5 years now.

But back to Tower. I chose them for the new vehicle solely based on price, but I did have to make a claim after I reversed into a bollard last year. The online claim process was a breeze, and they let me pick the repairer. I can't fault their service.

I had house, contents and 2x cars with Tower. Have never had to make a claim though.

I recently had to shift my house insurance away to a slightly niche insurer because I am working from home, and Tower simply wouldn't insure me. They have a very limited set of work that you can do from home (basically...use a computer) and still stay insured.

I've been with Tower a number of years and we recently had to make a water damage claim - They were excellent and relatively pain less

We have house, contents, and insurance for two cars with Tower. Their pricing seems to be consistently lower than the competitors. We had to make a claim about two years ago after being hit from behind by another car, the process was easy and simple and couldn't have been any better.
