It it just me, or have NZ post nerfed inbound international tracking for mail?

You used to be able to put in an overseas package in (e.g. RM123456789IN for stuff from India) and once it hit customs you could track it. Now I can enter the tracking number, but just get "This product is not a tracked service, but may receive a delivery scan". With notifications enabled, I get an email with the updates, but I can't see the tracking history, nor can I do a parcel redirect on it etc.

You can still get the tracking (albeit with less detail) at Track17 etc.

Very annoying (and honestly just feels like they are being sore losers)

To get the level of tracking you are expecting, the item would need to be scanned every time it was sorted. That would roughly quadruple sorting times.

Additionally, NZ Post don't offer a true track and trace service. The services they call track and trace only get pickup and delivery scans.

I think you are missing that these mail items are still being scanned and tracked, that data shows up on international tracking sites (albeit with less detail). Until relatively recently it showed on the NZ Post website as well. I've gotten previous mail from the same place, same sort of post, and it's been fully tracked through the NZ post system. Now they appear to have deliberately removed that functionality.

*edit* Also I'm still getting the email notification updates as it's tracked through the NZ post system btw, it's just the website now says feck off.

Batman:

i was wondering why

I can't see any actual fiscal benefits to this because the tracking IS still happening, so the polite for company version of my speculation is that they have sour grapes.
