I'm off to Field Days in a couple of weeks. I haven't been before, but was keen to go and have a look around. Are there any must-see/do activities that I should watch out for in particular?

1. Watch out for traffic queues in the morning (they rival Auckland)

2. Take your gumboots if its raining or it has been raining in previous days, also try not to bog your car in the car park (there are tractors available just incase)

Walk quickly around the whole site initially, don't stop and look/chat at every stand that catches your eye. Make a note of the interesting ones, and then go back to them once you've been the whole way around.

This stops you from missing out on something that really fascinates you, because you spent too long looking somewhere else at something that caught your eye.

Good time to pick up some Backroad thermal/gumboot socks from the Farmlands tent.

Might be able to find some good cheap tie downs (strops) too.

I did wonder about that (townie!). I was hoping I could get away with work boots since they are a bit more comfortable but should be prepared.

DjShadow: 1. Take your gumboots [full stop]

One day is not enough if you are easily fascinated by machinery.

Make time for the wood chopping and tractor racing.

Take some snacks as food is often expensive there.

If you see something you like, buy it, often they sell out on a day and you will miss out.

Not been for a few years but should go again one day soon.
