Hello community,

i have been tasked with recommending an NBN provider in australia has anyone had experience with various providers like Aussie Broadband, Telstra, IInet, Optus etc.

the property has FTTP but have heard that telstra is shocking at speeds so i thought i would ask here.

I suggest asking on the Whirlpool Forums as they have more of an Australian focus. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/

Is Starlink an option in Australia yet? :)

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

A friend of mine lives near the centre of Brisbane and she's on NBN - the wireless version. She says it's the best option available, as she can't get much else...definitely no fibre for her.

I'm an FTTP NBN user in North Brisbane, currently using dual homed connectivity through Internode and Aussie Broadband. Internode used to be good, but since the iiNet/TPG/Vodafone swallow up the service has gone way downhill. Aussie Broadband gives me uncapped 1000/50 for a reasonable price. They also have the advantage that they do not oversell CVC, and are transparent with their POI CVC throughput so you can see how they manage it. Would recommend.

How many properties can get FTTP though? I heard it's not a large number (not like here).

I'm connected with Aussie Broadband with FTTC in Brisbane. In the Whirlpool forums Aussie Broadband and SuperLoop have a good name. SuperLoop has a good product and is a little cheaper than NBN but it takes longer to get through to customer service, so unless they are techie I'd recommend Aussie Broadband.

Their mobile app is very good (at least on iPhone, haven't tried Android) it notifies you of outages, can run line tests, order extra products like VOIP, Mobile and Fetch TV. They are very customer centric, no shortcuts. Friendly staff.

Last I saw (a month or two ago) 19% had FTTP. Feels like stepping back 7 years as far as home internet connectivity is concerned.

I deal with Superloop for one of our clients, they provide the VPN. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Sorry I don't have anything good to say about SuperLoop.

The consumer / business support may be better but we are in the Enterprise / Government team and they are apalling.

I dont know how they are still in business to be honest.

I know enough to be dangerous

fs.com sell fire cable by the meter, suggest you find a friend in NZ with fiber to connect to and run it across the river to your house.

I lived in Sydney for 30 years, returning home in 2014. As others have said NBN rollout has been a huge joke. Also hop onto the Whirlpool forums of which I was a member for nearly 20 years.

When I first joined the internet in 1994/5 it was TIG (The Internet Group), this then was bought out by the Auckland company HUG (Home Users Group) They subsequently were bought out by iinet in Perth.

All 3 providers gave me excellent service 24/7. Funny enough some of the iinet help desk is/was based in Auckland. Have a look at their front page and type in your street address and see if they provide to your area.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
