I just seen this Tweet which is kind of alarming:

Found confirmation on Transpower's website:

https://www.transpower.co.nz/sites/default/files/interfaces/can/CAN%20Low%20Residual%20Situation%204025411929.pdf

The TL:DR is there is less than 200 MW of capacity left in the North Island currently

Power out in a small section of Aotea, Porirua too; however, that may be unrelated - I'd expect a larger area.

However, my sister (in Hamilton) has been impacted - her entire neighbourhood is out currently.

We sure need more of something. I think we have plenty of coal. Perhaps something to turn that coal into electricity.

We need the government to stomp on the generators with a fairly hard regulatory boot. Currently they have incentive to keep generation low and prices resultingly high.

Power Grid.

Bring back ripple control.
We can put car chargers on the same system :-) .
Grandads grid was smarter ?

Well our population has grown substantially over last 20Y.
More people more power consumption, so infrastructure needs to expand in line with that.

Huntly.
Perhaps Hamiltonians might want to take over the control room and send the power back south ?

I guess Northland is sweet with expansion of their own thermal generation ?

Could it be we don't lack generation as much as spot pricing is spiking so much companies are lothe to buy it ?
The reason that Aussie started putting Tesla Power Storage in place.

You must be in the Flagstaff area if the WEL energy site is correctly showing the outages

So, we're not at capacity or demand has dropped significantly very recently.
