Hi all,

Thinking of buying a telescope through bhphotovideo.com and shipping from US to NZ.  I notice when you buy they give you two options for taxes/duties

1. Pay the taxes/duties (GST) at time of purchase through them

2. Handle the payment yourself when the item enters the country

Has anyone tried option 2?  Presumably under the new rules if the GST isnt capture at the time of purchase (option 1) then you wont have to pay it when it enters the country?

thanks

You will have to pay if the value is over $1000.

As a general observation, always pay the GST on purchase, not when it arrives here, it's a huge headache dealing with it here if you're not a customs broker tied into their system - it's set up to deal with freight companies, not individuals bringing in a single item.
