Just had a fairly small 1kg parcel sent there and hit with a staggering near-$100 shipping fee. Will have to see how it's been boxed when it arrives, but holy hell have prices gone up in the last couple of years.

I remember in the past having 10kg boxes sent for around $60-80. Do people even use them anymore?

On that note does anyone know of a reasonably priced sea freight forwarder who offers consolidation? Been wanting to bring over a whole lot of bigger stuff, but after this round of youshop I don't think I want to use them...

I guess it's fairly large which increases the volumetric weight. For example 1kg in a 30 x 30 x 30cm box is  $108 air freight, but 10 x 10 x 10 cm it's $30.

Can't help with freight forwarding sorry.

OP stated..

"fairly small"

Guessing we are missing some info, maybe a small item packaged in large box?

We order stuff from one of our fav bands (Theyre Kiwis but based in US) , the shipping has been absolutely nuts - however, turns out, its the company their using for shipping thats charging an arm and a leg. Im talking $75 for a few books to be sent here etc.

Shop around for alternatives..... we're going to start using a US contact to get stuff to us instead......

Am using Planet Express at the moment. Might not be any cheaper though but maybe you can get actual dimensions off Youshop and plug them into P E.
