Not a single article about Sir Clive's passing on Stuff or Herald or Newshub, it was Hack-A-Day where I learned this sad news...

https://hackaday.com/2021/09/16/farewell-sir-clive-sinclair-inspired-a-generation-of-engineers/

I mean, I know he's not related to NZ in any particular way, but he was a pretty important person in our collective technological history.  You'd think at least a paragraph.

RIP, Sir Clive. It was the ZX81 that started it all for me.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

ZX Spectrum Plus for me, way back in 1986 (I was 10!)

Saw Micro Men back in 2009, revealed a lot of the history around Sinclair I never knew beforehand.

Yeah, Aardvark was where I read about his passing. It was also one of his better columns from recent memory.

ZX81 as a present for Christmas 1982

ZX Spectrum 48K as an upgrade for Christmas 1983

Upgraded the Keyboard to a ZX Spectrum+ as a later date - you just moved the motherboard over.

RIP Sir Clive. I am sure my ZX81 is stored somewhere in our garage.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

RIP :(

ZX Spectrum 16k was our first, around 1983, and later upgraded to 48k.

Have a Cambridge in my Desk Drawer - nostalgia at it's finest.

Not the first kit I put together - that'd be a Heathkit shortwave...

My ZX81 (with printer !) is packed away.

Probably the peak of my electronic skill - reverse engineering that and doubling its memory.

Sinclair played some very cunning tricks addressing the RAM, if I recall.

He was a great mind.

pdh: Sinclair played some very cunning tricks addressing the RAM, if I recall.

What happened is thay Sinclair got hold of a load of faulty ram chips cheap, of each chip half the bank was perfectly good, so for a 32k machine they put in 64k of ram and just arranged it so that only the good halves of each chip were used.

Sinclair was really the king of cost reduction.

Did anyone ever own a Z88? Were they even available in New Zealand?

Ahh the ZX80 with the wobbly ram pack expansion

that brings back memories ( It used to wobble just as you finished getting

a program to run and loose everything before saving it to tape )
