Hi gang.

My current chair is not as comfortable as it once was, so I am looking for a "gaming" chair (one that's not a standard office chair) which will ne comfortable and robust for extended use while I continue to work from home.

Budget maxes out at around $300.00, so I know I am looking in the "budget" range.

I have seen these: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CHROEX3001/ONEX-GX330-Gaming-Chair---Black which look like what I am after. Anyone with any experience of these longer-term or have alternatives?

Really would like to stick with black or black/grey for the minimalist look.

Cheers!

HD

Current GX330 user here.

You get what you pay for and the lumbar support cushion is awful.

Everything else is okay and I do sit on it for at least 8 hours most days and I still feel quite comfortable.

Thanks @MaxineN

When you say the lumbar cushion, I assume that you are referring to the removable one, as opposed to the actual back rest?

For reference, I have been using one of these for the last 14-15 months and it's just started to become a little uncomfortable as the padding is compressing in the seat area Lincoln Highback chair

I get that you want a gaming chair, but it’s very rare to find an affordable one that offers anywhere near the seating rating that an equivalent costing ‘office chair’ can provide. In fact, many gaming chairs even don’t provide such a rating.

When I went looking for a new chair a while back I had the idea like you to get a gaming chair, but after doing the rounds of the shops and reading up on chairs I ended up going practical, and getting a s/h office chair (same model as I have at work, and as recommended to me by the OSH nurse). While what I got is far from as cool looking, I have never regretted the decision.

If I was to go down the route of a gaming chair I’d be looking to avoid one covered in PVC ‘leather’ - not the best for breathability.

The one that is removable. I tried it for an hour and immediately hated it and took it off.

I've been through a few office chairs and to be honest a good one like the one I have in the actual office (where I now never work) is WAY out of my budget.

I have actually found the Pleather chair I have to be really quite comfortable, even through last summer in this very warm room, but it's just now starting to compress a bit too much in the ar$e area so is less comfortable than it used to be (and I'll be gifting it to my gamer son who is much much lighter than I.

But I do get where you're coming from.

Similar situation here - I've got a jasper j chair, padding is rubbish.

I just got some of these from the warehouse

https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/living-co-memory-foam-chair-pad-2-pack-40cm-x-40cm/RM110150057-1M.html

Does the trick for me.

@Handsomedan have you considered a stand-up desk or workstation instead? Use the existing chair (but less often) and vary your position a bit more instead.

Totally get the cost thing, as it was the same issue for me. That's why I bought (and suggested to you) second hand, as you'll get much better value for money. Just a matter of seeing if you can try before you hand over the cash to make sure it's in good working condition and hasn't had too much wear...

Gaming chairs with the 'bucket seat' type wings excell at pushing your shoulders forward and encouraging poor posture.

They look cool for streamers I suppose... but ultimately a lot of the gaming chairs you see are carbon copies of each other with branded logos to differentiate themselves / crank up the price.

I would buy a decent office chair myself.

I'm not exactly sure what a 'gaming chair' is. They all look far from minimalist IMO.

If comfort is a priority, have you considered a mesh chair?

I got one of these a few months back and it's very comfortable, at least for me. It's nowhere up to the standard of the Herman Miller Aeron, but it's probably the most comfortable chair I've found around your price range.

What's so different about gaming that you need a special chair? I sit in a Studio 340 for 8+ hours a day and it's comfortable. I can't even remember how old it is, probably 5 years or so (maybe ten I don't know), and it's only just starting to get the the point I'm thinking it's not quite as solid as it used to be, I might replace it in the next year or two.

EB Games has a couple of Brazen chairs on sale for under $300. Don’t know anything about em.

I had the FT700 model for about 9-10 months. Then ended up getting a refund as the foam on the seat gave way as to where it wraps around and you can feel the metal frame sitting down. Decided to get a 2nd hand buro or formway. Got a mesh Formway Life for $350.

Thanks all. Looking like I’m probably going to head in the “non-gaming/non-racing” seat direction.

I’ll have to wait until lockdown ends and try sitting in a few (maybe by March next year, I’ll be able to do that?).
