Hi, wondering if anyone knows of any tricks for reading ECC200 Data Matrix codes. 

 

Can read a decent sized one with a phone app, but having trouble with really small ones (in this particular case on apple parts to get the part SN). Wondering if anyone has any tricks for reading these or recommendations on a scanner that's not crazy expensive? Thanks.

See if you can take a clean photograph and then blow up the image on a big screen ( laptop etc) then see if you can scan the enlarged image

The HB100 is  https://www.shopapexel.com/products/100-mm-macro-lens-for-cell-phone  not sure how optically similar.

 

Here's a clip (HB100 lens) from an image of a steel ruler. the graduations are 1/2 mm and seem well defined in the image so may give an indication of the result for a small DataMatrix ECC200 code:
