I like Watties Creamy Pumpkin soup and eat it fairly regularly. It has always had a relatively thick consistency but tonight the one I opened seemed noticeably thin and watery. Is this in fact the case? Has it been diluted? Is this a hidden price rise? I can't be completely certain though it definitely seems different. Has anyone else noticed this or does anyone know anything more?

Sounds like to be more of a production fault.

take note of the printed code and send em an email to the consumer line….

My mum used to get soup for myself and my brothers & sisters to eat when we were kids.

But she didn't buy the popular soups like tomato soup or minestrone soup, But exotic soups like lobster soup, etc.

When asked why, she said 'you would eat it if she got ordinary soup...' and 'the lobster soup will last longer'

Creamy Tomato Soup for one is also fantastic if you are after an alternative.

Pumpkin soup is so quick and easy to make, the issue is the pumpkin, some of them are think and sweet, some are watery and stringy.

It may have been a poor batch ( picked early and not stored long enough )

Buy another can from a different batch, hopefully newer to see how it goes.

I suspect that Wattie's has been under the pump to keep stock on shelves.

Nothing worse when there is something not right with your favorite.

I often make and freeze it. Big pumpkin cut in 4 thrown in a pot minus the seeds with a few carrots, onion and garlic, a kumera when I have one and a touch of sugar if it’s not a sweet one.

Take out when cooked and peel off the skin. Throw it back in the pot, add seasonings, curry, grated nutmeg. Blitz, add cream and a bit of milk. Freeze in serving sizes flat packed, would be enough to last all winter for the price of a few cans so worth considering as an alternative now that pumpkins are cheap and plentiful.

Since you are such a fan of the product though, contact them and complain. They might send you a few cans as compensation.

I don't make it often but if I make it, I always roast my pumpkin first.

Tomato is my other favourite. I consume both regularly.

I roast a pumpkin a week to use as an ingredient in stir fries, rice dishes, on wraps, etc. Roast pumpkin is great. It's a very wet vegetable so it's windows open and extractor on otherwise the windows steam up.

If I recall you have a Traeger. Try roasting you pumpkin in there and get that smokey flavour.

Yeah, I could do. I don't really like smoke in everything I eat though, it can sometimes be a bit offputting.

I sometimes roast my pumpkin in smoked paprika. It's nice, but can get a bit gritty if you use too much, so I don't do it too often.

Lobster bisque is my absolute favourite soup. One of the best examples I have had in recent years was at Delmonico in Vegas. I could have skipped the steak and had 2 or 3 bowls of that soup!

Absolutely.

Bovril is a favourite of mine (on toast). The only Bovril you can get here is the vegetarian facsimile. There is no reason for it not to be the beef version which is the real thing - I checked with Customs whether there was any peculiarity because of the BSE thing and they assured me that there was not. Yet for some reason...we cannot get the proper version.

Fortunately my wife is heading to the UK in August and will return with supplies!
