I see today 12 schools in NZ received bomb threats. This is on top of the 5 school threatened the other day. Just what the heck is going on? What would someone gain from this? It honestly has me perplexed.

Dunno. The ones on Tuesday came from overseas according to the police but it's easy to spoof CLID. My granddaughters school Morrinsville College was called on Tuesday and closed for the day.

That just means they used an overseas VoIP provider to make it difficult to trace them. My guess is it's some idiot playing at the equivalent of swatting, Tyler Barriss made a sport out of getting high-profile places shut down with bomb threats.

Awatapu principal says believes call was in person. The rest known were automated according to this article:

Unless the school offices record all calls police will rely on the person who answered for a description.

it will be some freedom group protesting about masks becoming mandatory in schools, they are dumb enough to do it.

Wide variety of possibilities:

Just because somebody can / to test what happens.
Prank
Because somebody wants the day off (and decides doing multiple schools will decrease the attention on them.)
Somebody wants to defer a test or assessment. (same deal as above for multiple schools).
Social media fame (from a location inaccessible to NZ law enforcement)

The Government is shortly going to order a military lockdown on all schools and force vaccinations on the children and these bomb threats were a test to see how it would work.

Of course and a number of parents are believing it and questioning the schools on it. Maybe an IQ test is needed before signing up to social media.
