From what I can tell the valve in the picture is a cold water expansion valve. It has started hissing and there is a constant drip coming out of the drain pipe. If I turn the black cap at the top to the right water is released thru the overflow drain and the hissing stops. It comes back once the hot tap is used.

So is it stuffed or are there replaceable parts in it to fix the problem?

Thanks in advance

I'm going to respectfully suggest that if you need to ask you should call a plumber (That's what I'd be doing. The way I read your post it implies you're intending on DIY, apologies if I 've got that wrong.)

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

I'm on my third in 15 years. Cheaper to pay a plumber to come and replace it than to buy the part retail and do it yourself. Get it sorted early before the drip becomes a river.

It is tempting to rotate the blue knob in the hope of flushing grit from the seal but I do not recommend doing that. Don't ask me how I know.

Thanks for all the replies. I was going to diy it, but after another look I decided better to get a plumber. Managed to get hold of one that can come out sometime this week so should be sorted soon.

Thanks again
