Is there such a thing as a universal R/C transmitter for kids radio controlled cars?

My grand kids have a few that have stopped working simply because one of the battery contacts has corroded ... managed to clean a couple up but the corrosion has gone deeper into the handset on others.

Tks.

Would a soldering iron and a replacement contact be the solution?

I'll try opening up the handset and see if a re-solder works ... just seemed a waste of a perfectly good r/c car.
