I have ordered stuff from Aliexpress for years without a problem.

But since December 2022 I have a handful of items that have not arrived and the sellers won't refund me.

I have NZ POST tracking numbers but they all seem to be stuck with: "The postal shipment has arrived at the international gateway for unloading and border clearance into New Zealand." What does that mean? Is it in NZ or not?

Did you have any luck with this?

I have one sent on EMS from China which is also pending border clearance since the 27th of April. Value is about $800 NZD and EMS is meant to be quick, so it's getting a bit frustrating now.

That's only a few days, it could be sitting in a warehouse awaiting consolidation or who knows what. "Ages" implies you ordered it in January and it's still not here, see the OP's post.

Also: You paid $800 for something from Aliexpress? Actual NZ dollars, not RMB 800 or 800 zloty or rubles or something?

I've noticed this too. Don't bother trying to get the seller to refund you. Just file a dispute with AliExpress, with a screenshot of the tracking information.

I just dispute and move on.  Never once had a dispute for an item not turning up fail. I had 3 in the holding purgatory.  Ive found Temu so far is much much quicker (last order turned up in less than 2 weeks) and Ive even found banggood good lately. Aliexpress hasnt been good for me for a long time.

Had 2 AliExpress orders this month. Both arrived here in Chch in under 2 weeks from order!

Both used AliExpress Standard Delivery. (Which I always choose)

Ordered an item on May 14th and expected delivery is now 2nd July. A lot longer delivery time than I was used to.

Not a high value and don't need it in a hurry, so will see when, or if, it actually arrives.

Orders from Banggood have been a lot quicker recently.

My recent Aliexpress delivery was quite a bit earlier than the original ETA.

Same here - cheapie digital callipers.  NZ Post tracking has said awaiting border clearance with Customs for the last 9 days.

I phoned NZ Customs today and asked if it was possible that the goods were branded with a counterfeit logo & awaiting destruction or if there was a hold up processing inwards parcels through Customs / border clearance?  The nice lady said no - that they are getting lots of calls about this tracking status with NZ Post, that the parcel will have definitely been passed to NZ Post (almost immediately on arrival as Customs don't hold these items) but that NZ Post is obviously not updating tracking status when or after parcels are collected by NZ Post on arrival into NZ.

Good one NZ Post!

My package that had an ETA of 2nd July arrived this morning, so only 19 days.

Tomorrow I get to play with it. Hope it works.

Just got sent a wrong item from an otherwise reasonably reputable store (LOTO Oscilloscopes, they do differential current probes at a fraction of the cost of the usual big brand ones), and got the dreaded:

hello friend, really sorry that we sent the wrong range.

Please cancel the dispute and I will send you the new tracking number soon.

While I really want to believe they'll do this, there are an infinite number of examples of this going wrong. AFAICT my options are "I'll close the dispute once you send me a tracking number for the replacement" or close the dispute and then reopen it before the 15-day buyer protection expires, assuming it's possible to re-open or file another dispute on the same item. Has anyone done the latter, i.e. closed a dispute and then re-opened it when no replacement was forthcoming? Is that even possible or do you just get the one shot at it?

In terms of insisting on a refund, there's really no alternative to these items unless I want to drop several hundred dollars on a big-brand one so getting a refund won't help me much, I need a replacement.

You cannot reopen a dispute.

Thanks! There's various vague statements out there about having a comeback after closing a dispute but if the 15-day period isn't up yet, but nothing very clear.

In any event the seller issued a full refund and invited me to re-order, so all good. It's unfortunate that legit sellers get caught up in the scam practices.
