Spotted it the other day in a semi rural area and just wondered what it was as hadn’t seen equipment like it on a power pole before. I’m sure someone here will know!

Is this Canterbury? Wonder if it's for a smart meter network. Iirc there was a local company that made a mesh smart meter network, instead of connecting to a 3G network

Whatever it is, it's an eyesore.

And note the caravan style power plug below with lead running up to the beam-forming brain scanners.

In towns you see similar units mounted under the verandahs of pubs. Used in heating mode they collect gatherings of drunken idiots talking BS and smoking.

I'm gonna double down and say it's part of the old Arc Innovations smart meter mesh network in Canterbury or Hawke's Bay. Basically they would put a single GRPS modem in one of these things in each neighbourhood, and all of the meters would report to it on their own RF network. Essentially a way to avoid the cost of a GRPS modem in every smart meter. Sounds like its on its way out, with metering providers preferring to put a 3G/4G modem in each meter, and not have to run their own mesh network.
