Stuff.co.nz isn't being updated currently; and is apparently having issues.  Some links redirect to an HTTP 500 error page; there is a message about half-way down the page:

Looks like their "Latest Headlines" stopped updating just before 9pm last night; that's quite a long outage now!

Most importantly, the quiz hasn't updated to the morning one.

the headlines havent updated since 8:53pm last night.  And meanwhile NZH is reporting about a Holmes interview that happened in 1989!!!

Seriously where should we go for quality news reporting???

networkn: Up for me?

Yes, the website isn't "down"; but it's not entirely functional.

.... and having said that, now it seems to be working a bit better - headlines are updating; and the Quiz page no longer gives HTTP/500 - but still no actual quiz yet; I just get a broken image:

It's very simple. Don't click on the stories that don't interest you. Then they'll stop putting them on the front page. I totally get it though there is a lot of cruft on that initial page some days..

That doesn't work in practice as you are only one click, meanwhile there are another 150K numpties clicking on every article about the Kardashians or (insert any other so called celebrity here).

What annoyed me was when they removed the Technology section from the home page a few years ago. Now you've got to go hunting for it in the menu.

I read the Financial Times these days. Despite the name, they also report general news and politics, even Eurovision :) The weekend version also includes sections on arts and travel and the like.

Stuff are largely a joke since they started accepting taxpayer funding.

Maybe its just me getting grumpy as I get older, but all I want is a website of news.  unbiased fact. dont do the millions of opinion pieces, the lifestyle pieces how your husband went back to his ex, the royals.
Stuff is now pretty much a lifestyle magazine...

But all the other sites dont do enough up to date news reporting cos Stuff has all the "reporters

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

You mean what RNZ is supposed to be. We all paid for it in our taxes too.

I also long for quality journalism  and I agree with the sentiments expressed here, but ultimately it is always about money. As long as people do click on crap, they will get crap. It is up to us to create and sustain a market for something better. Also by voting for parties that understand what is at stake here.

Rikkitic: As long as people do click on crap,

The headlines topic used to be several posts a day complaining in detail about articles they could not resist clicking. That thread slowed almost immediately after Boucher took over. Stuff improved massively with the new ownership and strategy.

Sinead has good intentions and will probably get Stuff back into the business of serious news if she can get the paywall to work commercially.

The traditional advertising based business model is eroding, so if people want real news then they're going to have to be willing to pay for it just like they paid for newspaper subscriptions 20 years ago.
