hi all,
is it just me or are restaurants totally ripping off customers in the name of Valentines Day ?? tried getting a booking for Valentines day and most of them have a set menu starting from $150 per person and drinks on top !!!

I understand its a special day but that doesnt mean they should be allowed to charge as much as they want.

Damn National and their free market economy.

Auntie Helen would not have allowed this.

How about the airlines, accommodation and food places in Wellington who charged exhorbitant amounts because of the Sevens?  It is very common for businesses to charge more during peak season to make up for the lulls during the quiet times.

Easiest way to show your disagreement - don't give those businesses your custom.  If they have lower sales because of the higher prices, it doesn't take a genius to figure out something is wrong.  As for the rest of us, to please our "better halves" we'll take it on the chin

It's the same with the florists.
Price for flowers seem to triple around this time of year especially roses.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Prices are that high because people will pay that price - pretty simple. I agree it's not nice, but welcome to the free market.

Valentines Day is a commerical hoax. Don't buy into it, do something a few days before or after and it saves all the extra cost, busyness and hassle. Even better this year it is a Saturday so your Mrs probably won't be at work feeling left out when all her workmates are getting overpriced crap that is going to die in a few days anyway.

i dont understand how people can still afford to pay such so much for dinner especially given the global financial crisis. I mean i must have contacted 10 restaurants and they all said they are fully booked for lunch and dinner !! and we are talking average $150 pp plus drinks on top.

i dont remember any charity organisation/event having such a big response from the public.  No wonder we are in such a big financial mess.

Good time to be a florist though. Or a restaurant.

Hmmm 3Bit Buffet... has a ring to it.

That's my policy.

They do it with roses too around valentines day.

Doesn't bother me one iota because I think valentine's day is a load of old pants, and thankfully my partner agrees.  But say, just for the sake of argument, I wanted to buy her a rose because it's also our anniversary... I'd have to buy it two weeks in advance and hope it doesn't wither.

Really? $150 per person when normally a main meal is $25? Something here is wrong, are you booking 5 star restaurants?

ya really, $150 pp PLUS drinks on top. And you can bet i am not booking that restaurant. I just happen to call one of these restaurants in Auckland CBD because i wasnt getting any luck getting a table at others i had called earlier.

image if people donated $150 pp to say a fund to find cure for cancer ?? i bet we would find a cure very soon ...

Now that's another can of worms right there! There's too much money being made from diseases like Cancer and AIDS now.  Rick Simpson's "Running from the Cure" documentary is very interesting.

I could go on but I don't wanna wreck this thread.

It just so happens our anniversary is on valentine's day, and I resent having to pay $20 for a freakin' rose.
