Google will index faster if your content changes faster. Also check Google Webmasters.

I thas a lot to do with the google bots, page, search ranking and google advertising / searches.  (also being a top site like geekzone helps)

Geekzone is one of the top NZ sites with its content trawled for news by google constantly as you see this as soon as something is posted in a blog or on the front page as I get a news alert from google in my inbox in a very short amount of time.  Google news only searchs on certain sites and geekzone is one of them.

I think a lot of people are envious of Geekzone and that Mauricio can retire on google cheques.

Far from it... But for curiosity I visited a secret page where I can see who is on Geekzone and where they are coming from and that's what I saw right now (note the Agent:)

Yeah you wonder about all those bots that crawl you site how much bandwith and load they put on your site and I notice on a small site a lot of traffic you think is vistors is just your site being traweled :-(

Those crawlers are everywhere.  Bees to honey pot.

If you look at geekzone's robots.txt file, they point the bots to:

sitemap: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sitemap.xml
sitemap: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sitemapforums.xml
sitemap: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sitemapblogs.xml

which is also probably why their pages are crawled often due to constant updated content.
