I had some faulty electrical goods arrive from China,
And I need to return them for warranty replacement.

What's the cheapest way to ship them?
(they arrived via DHL express & id rather not pay a Kidney to return them that way)

No - the supplier will not pay freight(freight is not their responsibility)

So I'm after suggestions on the cheapest way to ship them back.

More info like the size of the package would be helpful, A quick google thou gives you the usual options

Fedex, Courier post, Pack and send or DHL and suggests DHL is the cheapest...

Sometimes these international companies have a warehouse near the airport and you just have to send the goods there.

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

Are the goods worth claiming....  sometimes the cost of shipping outweighs the price of buying new.

I had it with a WD external drive that failed.... because retailer refused to have anything to do with it, I had to send to WD for assessment. Looked into pricing, and to buy new unit with new warranty locally was only $20 more than the price of shipping the faulty one!

Size = a couple of graphics cards. (small shoe box size effectively) -

@xpd - that's what I'm trying to work out (is it worth the return and what's the most cost effective way to return.)
With out exceeding the original value.

i normally just chuck them in the bin

not worth anything, can't sell them

also i don't buy electronics from China unless i'm absolutely convinced it's so cheap i can bin it, or the seller has enough feedback and the item is actually as described (and read the description 10 times over and never look at pictures)

As others have said, the cost to return is often not worth it. Outward international shipping services are generally quite expensive (and getting more expensive by the day).

One thing to bear in mind, if you do return and you want to use any NZ Post service, their prices are all increasing on July 1, so best to do it sooner rather than later. You can get a price on the NZ Post website by entering size and weight details to compare with any other services.

@batman - I understand what you are saying, but it's not really relivant in this case.

Though these are 'custom' cards an not something you can get locally. :)

I'm using them in a special project.
The items are as described and most of them in the shipment are functioning fine (apart from these two)

@rushmere - Thanks for the tip about NZpost price increases.

I'm well aware of your first statement, (which is the whole reason for this thread.....) - with a goods cost of $500 its worth investigating.

I was hoping some geeks here had 'actually' done some return shipping, - & could give me tips on who to look into using.

I tend to use NZ Post, largely because I'm lazy and it's easy! There may well be cheaper options.

You can get a price (and book) here

A small box to China by the cheapest service is currently around $70-$80 (tracked with signature required). I would definitely send signature required.

Special Chinese graphics cards? Sounds like a comical YouTube video done with the funding of crazy numbers of subscribers purely for the LOLs.

You would think a "MadScientist" and a "MadEngineer" would be used to trying 'non-standard' things. :)

These are a genuine product and have their purposes (particularly where Nvidia try to limit & segregate their product lines simply to screw more money out of people.)

Just the factorys quality control is not up to the same standards as mainstream manufacturers (to be expected)

If you've bought them via AliExpress, just file a dispute and click on the "Full Refund, No Return of Goods" option.

@frankv - Not that easy, I'm dealing with the factory directly (I did say these were specialised) :)

Legally the supplier have to collect the good at their own expense - You shouldn't be paying for it. Screenshot from the CGA.

This only applies to consumers. Dealing directly with a factory in China for a trade purchase won't be covered by the CGA.
