I'm considering getting a sodastream, the Terra version.

How long does the water stay fizzy for?

Do you have to drink it that day, or will it last in the fridge for a few days?

If you transfer the fizzed water to another non-sodastream bottle, is that a problem?

Or are they just a waste of money?

We use ours every other day. I mainly use it just for sparkling water and only occasionally add syrup for a soft drink. They definitely go flatter than a commercially produced bottled soft drink. I mainly only gas up a single 500ml bottle so normally consume it same day. The next day it’s not too bad but by day 3 if it’s pretty flat.

we bought the one with the premium glass bottles and have two of them. Glass generally retains its fizz better than PET.

Do the glass bottles fit the standard machine?

We bought one for kids last Xmas but largely the adults uses it fir sparkling water.

We are pretty happy with it. Gas bottle lasted 3 months or so.

Probably doesn't last as long as commercial bubbles but we can go through a litres worth in day and half so not really at issue.

I find that once the bottle is opened you're best drinking it within the following few hours, if you like your water fairly bubbly. It's not as bubbly as commercial bubbly drinks, but it's not far behind.

If you are worried about it going flat, then get a couple of smaller (500ml) bottles and only bubble what you will drink in a short time span

Is it also possible to 're-fizz' the bottles ?

I wouldn't bother. If it's not fizzy enough just empty it and start from fresh water.

Got one as well, it was okay the first few weeks then had to start using double the amount of presses to get anywhere close to ‘mild’ fizzyness. This was after chilling water first then putting in the fridge again for a bit longer.

Bought new bottles thinking they were leaking, still same issue.

If you prefer the strength of store bought then don’t bother with sodastream.

No, the glass bottles only fit the SodaStream Crystal machine.

if you want more fizz then use very cold water. often people use tap water and room temp syrup which doesn't hold bubbles well.

If you do get a Sodatream, I would recommend watching Big Clive's Will it Carbonate series for inspiration.  Why fizz up sugar-water when you can do Jägermeister, or tequila, or Marmite.

Don't miss the Irish Cream one.

I have one.

I use the normal sodastream bottles. I usually drink them same day but its no different to coke or other soft drinks. As long as there is enough in the liquid beyond pressurising the bottle, it wont release more from the liquid.

I love that they have the orange Mirinda mix - I havent been able to find mirinda as a soft drink for years now.

A word of warning.... fizzy drinks rot your teeth - even when its just sparkling water without sugar, it is acidic and your burps are too.

So dont use it as your only source of liquid thinking its better for you.

Sure if you are a soda drinker its easier to cut down on sugar by doing a half-and-half normal and diet mix for a 50% reduction in sugar intake, without the terrible taste of sugarfree diet drinks, but it still is very bad for your teeth.

We have one, mostly for the kids.  Once the novelty wore off, it now sits there collecting dust.  The syrups and the gas refills are expensive, we would go through a refill every month.  Never quite gets the same fizz at the commercial products.

I find that it is a lot more work to sodastream something up than it is to grab a can from the fridge. Its good for the seldom used flavours but for cola etc that I go thru a lot of (not as much as some past threads on here show some people drink) that its not worth it. Plus there is no cherry coke syrup here and the one time I got some cherry cola syrup from amazon and a reshipper with other stuff (back when freight was cheap) it was gross.
