Hi everyone,

The kids and I am really interested in trying out some Japanese treat subscription boxes, like Japan Candy Box, Bokksu, and Sakuraco which provides unique premium treats in each box.  However, I'm not sure if they ship to New Zealand. Has anyone here ordered from these companies before? If so, did you encounter any issues with shipping or customs? I'd appreciate any insights or recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

it needs to pass nz food import laws. there is a push to improve inspection of food parcels coming in. subscription services can be risky if they vary what they provide. if they change something and put something in that gets picked up by customs, you could be looking at severe court action. i know of a case where someone accidently brought in prohibited food and it cost 20k in lawyers fees before the case was dropped.

Another thing, I don't know if this is still the case but some years ago multiple violations could get you added to a watchlist for extra scrutiny.  Not in the sense of evil government surveillance but that anything you got sent in would be marked as requiring extra checking.

Also if you asked Customs what was and wasn't OK their response was some form of "we'll let you know once you've crossed the line".

I seem to recall there are NZ companies providing this service in NZ if you google. I was tempted by one a while ago. I'm interested to know what you find.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
