Right guys,

Im on the hunt for a new home phone. I want to be able to use custom ringtones (much like the Cisco IP phones).
I am stuck as to where to look. because im very sure that there arent many.. if any phones out there that can do this.

Just so you understand, it is for a Home Phone (preferably cordless)

This looks promising and when I looked on google it says ORB may be selling them.

Hmm so KX-TG5423M and KX-TG 9125 both panasonics hmm

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply.

the 9125's look great, only, I cant find anyone who sells them locally..

and at the moment, i have the KX-TG5423M set.

They are good phones, but they're woren out now.
and the ringtones are what i would call "ugly" ring tones. They got old VERY quickly.

Orb (Im assuming Orb Communication) dont seem to list them..

I'm watching this too as I'm keen to see if there is such a thing.

Other option is to get a WiFi Voip phone like a dedicated unit or a Nokia E-series (e71, N95 etc) and use that.

yeah, but unfortunately, that isnt much of an option.. i mean, you cant use it on your normal POTS line can you?

Because I dont use VOIP (dont look at me like that =p)

I know there are a few phones round that have this fuction, but finding them is like finding a needle in a hay stack from what i've gathered so far..

It's actually really starting to get to me, because i have a phone that sits next to me that rings so often, that i've used every ringtone in the phone, and now hate them all.

It's now turned to silent, and i now miss about 30% of my calls.

I think you are more likely to be able to have custom ringtones in a cordless phone.

Maybe the Siemens DECT or Uniden DECT might be worth investigating....

I think im actually going to have to ring Uniden to get any kind of decent information about their handsets..

This is rediculous, you'd think, the demand for home phones that can do this would be unbelievably high.. but noooo!

I have found very little information about any phones that do it.

One i know that does though is: AT&T E5860

Which is obviously no use to me, because its not Telecom certified. Grrrrrrrrr

There was a "skypephone" a while ago which had a USB connection for skype, maybe that can be customised with some software? (it works on normal landlines too, the skype thing was a stupid gimmick as a pc was used to create the actual call)

I use and old "motorway emergency phone" as a ringer, those oldschool bells are incredibly loud! The cordless is on silent.

That's probably because Maw and Paw users just pop down to the local tricky dickies and buy the one they like the look of, then get home and leave it set up with all its defaults and grin and bear the hideous ring tones.

I'm starting to get annoyed with the crappy tones on my old analog phone too... very tempted to find a replacement :)
