I'm going to a show Monday night at the Aotea Centre.

It's not a part of the world I'm very familiar with.

Is there anywhere nice nearby to have a meal, within easy walking distance?

Something a bit more upmarket than the food court preferably.

Tony's is a favourite for me when I'm up there, and it's just around the corner on Wellesley St. I would recommend making a booking if you're interested.

There are some good Korean restaurants near the corners of Mayoral drive and Queen street. Would strongly recommend any of them :)

Be aware that there are two Tony's (used to be three), one in Wellesley, one in Victoria.  I much prefer the Victoria St one, they do a much better pepper steak.

I also prefer Victoria St. Their fillet mignon is fantastic - mmm-mmm.

At their peak in the 1970/80s there were at least six Tony’s in Auckland - three in the CBD plus Ponsonby, Takapuna, Mission Bay - maybe more.

Established by Tony White and his brother. Old Victorian vibe with lots of antiquey fittings, lead-lights, cast iron, etc. Went to them all several times back in the day but have been to Victoria St hundreds of times over a nearly 50 year span. Called Tony’s Lord Nelson.

Incredibly the dark decor and booth-seating layout - and the menu (apart from prices) - have not changed one jot over that time. It’s an Auckland dining institution and icon.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Le Garde Manger French Restaurant, 466 Queen Street, serves very good food at reasonable prices.  It is about two long blocks up Queen Street and on the other side of the street from Aotea Centre.  A booking would be a good idea.

My go to is

https://www.elliottstables.co.nz/

It's a higher end food court, with some good offerings.

Granted I haven't been since the pandemic so it may have changed a little

A downside of both Mezze and Elliott Stables is that they can get quite crowded and noisy in the evenings. It really depends on what you're after.

If you've got the time you could also book a table in the Sky Tower restaurant.
