Hi there,

I'd like to start backing up our multimedia files at home (movies, pictures, music, etc) and I was looking for a reliable and cheap solution in form of an external hard drive.
I have already reduced my choice to two products:
1. WD Home Edition 1TB (USB/FW/eSATA) http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=586
2. WD My Book World Edition NAS 1TB (ethernet) http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=357

Now I just can't decide, which one to buy. NAS or USB hard drive?
We have two laptops at home, but I will hardly do backups every evening so the USB drive would do a good job, but on the other hand having a NAS drive hooked up to the wireless router and streaming music or videos over the network would be great too.

The new My Book WE NAS has got a very good critics on www.smallnetbuilder.com.

What do you recommend?

Can I for example use the NAS as an external HD connected to my laptop with ethernet cable? Then I would go for the NAS solution.
