Hi all,

As the title suggests my wife and I are struggling for xmas gift ideas for our daughter, she is 3.5 years old and has plenty of indoor toys so we would like to get her something for outside, but we are open to inside toy ideas also.

She has a trampoline and a scooter already, I was considering a balance bike from little nation, the reviews are a bit mixed though, curious if anyone has one?

Maybe if you show her some YT videos of kids riding one so she gets the idea. We bought one for a niece at that age and she was totally disinterested in it. I don’t think she ever used it. Yet I’ve seen very tiny kids on them going quite fast down the footpath with their parents.

They love play houses. The Warehouse has an Active Intent one for $239 which looks rather cute.

Balance bikes are awesome, just make sure you get one that is as light as possible. It makes it much easier for them to pick up and hop on.

The other thing to consider is a subscription to a Toy Library if there is one in the area. It's like $100/yr or something and you can hire out toys like books at a normal library. Our kids love it as they get fresh toys every 2-4 weeks.

Blow-up swimming pool? Or a sprinkler attachment for the trampoline.

We got our grandkids their own little arm chairs when that age ... moved to slightly bigger next year ... great for TV watching or just reading etc.

Bean Bag and some new books. You'll start a habit that will hopefully last a lifetime.

A comfortable place to be when she reads that is 'just hers' is a great way to have her treasure reading even more than she most likely already does.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read the outdoor bit, but an outdoor beanbag is also a good option.

Bicycle or scooter. Ball to throw / kick around. General outdoor toys, something to climb on maybe?

An outdoor toy for 3.5 years, I would suggest something like a toy tool bench or kitchen.

That's a fabulous age - make the most of it!

My baby girl just turned 20 - I just can't believe it. IMHO dad is still the favourite!

These have been great fun running around outside for my girl at that age and lasted several years in the sun as a bonus.

You can get a larger one but you'll end up doing all the throwing for that size and age.

Balance bikes are ok, but at nearly 4, you should just skip that and get a wee bike with training wheels attached or a good scooter (not the junk plastic ones).

we found the balance bike was a PIA and I often had to carry it after 5-10 minutes and I used to see a lot of other parents do the same….

just make sure you find a good fitting helmet…. We’ve had ones that looked good but didn’t fit well so were loose due to the hair (pony tails etc).

otherwise…..mini basketball hoop, slip n slide, motorised bubble contraptions, manual bubble contraptions,  outdoor kitchen/bbq/ cooking stuff (my girls used to love making leaf and flower dishes and I’d often then find that inside the house too but all good….(also taught them about bugs)..

edit, I also had to carry the wee bike too….kid got tired after biking to the park, playing on playground….

often, I’d carry a bike whilst carrying the kid too…. And when second kid came along, at least I could use the pram to carry bikes and scooters on whilst older kid was either on my shoulders or walking and new kid none the wiser in the pram.

Ahh the old ol days.
