Switched on our Nutribullet XXL Airfryer and it got half way through its programme and died. Now not a peep or LED to be heard or seen.

So I look it up - 15 months old and the Briscoes product website says the warranty is 12 months.

Is that reasonable and if I ask under CGA should they repair or replace it?

[is this the best forum to ask this question?]

Yes it's entirely reasonable.

An appliance should be reasonably durable. It is simply not reasonable that a $400 air fryer should last 15 months.

Just be polite but firm and say you would like it remedied under the CGA.

Just take it into the store and I am sure you will be fine. But you may need to mention the CGA if they say it only has a 12 month warranty, although hope they don't need you to mention it.

Price depends on model and shop. Single drawer can be had for as low as $128.

But I would think pretty much any appliance should last longer then 15 months. Even if price were a factor I'd also go by RRP not sale prices

Price is a factor as it's reasonable that more expensive appliances should be more durable than a cheap appliance. Sale prices aren't useful as they aren't always available.

Regardless I'd be going for it, 15 months is kind of ridiculous and why legislation like the CGA exists.

I agree just pointing out that even if OP paid a higher price it wouldn't cost the shop that to replace today.

Whether a price is expensive for the item is subjective. If a retailer doesn't think an appliance will last longer than 12 months, they shouldn't sell it, hence the CGA.

Thanks everybody.

Update: despite the website stating that tickets take up to 5 business days to reply I got a reply from Briscoes the very next day, and to their credit they simply said bring it in and we’ll have a look at it.

Update 2: after being left off for a few hours then plugged back in the device is now working again. So that’s a bit of a problem if it’s an intermittent fault that can’t be demonstrated. Has been used twice now without failing. I wonder if there’s a thermal or electrical connection fault.

If it has no fails today I may have to just ask them to note the fault resolved itself and close the ticket.

That sounds a good approach. However I would give it only one more chance - if it happens again I'd take it in to them. My guess is that you would have at least three years cover via CGA.

Update #2:

The air fryer stopped again so took it back to the store. The manager tapped away on a terminal for a couple of minutes then grabbed a new one.

But there's more. They are on sale at a cheaper price than on the sale I purchased the original one on, so they refunded the $40 difference on top of the replacement.

The question now is, does the new one have the same 1 year warranty or does it have no warranty?

It would be reasonable if it continued whatever the CGA deems to be fair cover.

The replacement is covered by the original cga coverage. It's not an endlessly restarting loop.

Great result. It's nice seeing a retailer who just does the right thing.

While I don't disagree with the sentiment, what does the receipt show?

If it was replaced under warranty, you wouldn't normally get a receipt showing a refund and new purchase. Certainly wouldn't expect a refund of the difference just because it's on sale a year later.

Does the receipt state it's a warranty replacement?
