Breaking news; Pope Francis has passed away.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world-news/360660886/pope-francis-has-died-vatican-announces

Whilst not Catholic myself, I can appreciate his loss, and hope that the Church will choose wisely when electing his replacement.

RIP. He managed to hold on long enough to give JD Vance admonishment.

He made some good progress in the Church and his loss will be keenly felt by more than a billion people.

Fitting he went off over Easter.

So does anyone else agree we're well past time for another female Pope?

And yes I'm very serious.

Ah yes, the best person for the job who miraculously always looks exactly the same as everyone else who has previously done the job.

Really not sure flags should be getting flown at half mast in NZ.

Seems less than 300,000 people identify as Catholic, and border line a separation of "church and state" issue.

Couldn't disagree more. It's a fitting and minor recognition. Even those who aren't Catholic might feel sadness at his death.

If he had died at 40, or been prematurely extinguished by Italian traffic, I might feel a kind of general sadness but he lived to the very respectable age of 88, had a full and fulfilling life, and died a much loved and highly regarded world figure. What is there to feel sad about? People should be dancing in the streets in celebration of a life well lived!
