Can anyone recommend a good coffee shop in Wellington that is open later afternoons (many seem to close at 3pm) , and is a good place to sit and is relatively quiet? I haven't been to Wellington for years and don't know the current ones now open. TIA

Are you able to narrow down to a certain part of Wellington you are looking?

It's incredible pretty much all cafés shut at 3 PM around the city.

I sometimes go to the Intercontinental Hotel bar. Good coffee there and very quiet.

Oranga Café - https://maps.app.goo.gl/oGxHiYn9KLa1pPhk8 (closes at 3:30pm).
Aurora Argentinian Bakery - https://maps.app.goo.gl/gkFPVG5EBgsA1rKP6 - also, https://maps.app.goo.gl/9oWDxUz1QJE7QyqZ7
Collective Coffee Shop & Co - https://maps.app.goo.gl/AoDUazxosRZumAh28
Raglan Roast Coffee - https://maps.app.goo.gl/Yn9Vtj8K51tWq8GfA
Kaffee Eis Cuba Street - https://maps.app.goo.gl/JCGJNXdY1XKoov7w6

Those are some I've been to a few times now and have great Coffee. That's generally in the CBD area around where I work but Raglan Roast is pretty good (they have a few locations) if you're just after good Coffee. Aurora is incredible and has amazing food too.

I don't personally like Mojo at all.

If more people showed up at cafes from mid afternoon onwards, more would stay open. It's a bit of a catch 22 but I can understand the desire to close around 3, since many of them are open from 6-7am anyway, and the observable foot traffic from the CBD workforce dries up around 230pm.

A likely option for a quiet space to work at that time is a bar or restaurant/bar.  Coffee might be a bridge too far but some will serve it.
