With the numerous strong wind warnings, cancellations of flights, trains, and someone unfortunately dying yesterday...

Please take extra care and stay inside if you can. Get all of your loose items secured now. Ensure phones, battery banks and god knows what else is fully charged today.

It's gonna be a bloody rough one.

It’s slowly strengthening in Te Awakairangi.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Wind has picked up a little on exposed Wellington hill but nothing as bad as the other night when you couldn’t hear the TV. Maybe it will blow past Welly.

11.45 it’s finally picked up, very strong gusts. Was down in the village and can’t understand why they allow double decker busses to run in this. They look ready to tip over.

Friend who works at DOC says they have now lost connectivity and power with 19 regional offices.

I think I'm going to have an insurance claim once the storm has passed, front fence is moving 20-25 degrees in both directions with each wind gust

Nowhere near as bad here (North Otago) as it was earlier in the week, so far.

Minor casualty at our place, or the neighbours' really.  Managed to clear it all up already.

I've been getting updates from my elderly mother in Mosgiel.
They lost power an hour or so ago and aren't hopeful of it coming back on any time soon.

Whilst she's hunkered down at home, dad is off with a bunch of other elderly types at some group or other than he belongs to (more than likely a Parkinson's group or a Blind Old Git's group).
I've heard all about rooves being blown off, trampolines flying through the air and trees down all over the place.
Madness that they are taking old folk on excursions on a day like today, but I guess they have their schedules.
