Hi everyone. I've been working in AU for the past 2 years and just returned to Auckland. I'm looking to rent and wanted to search on Trademe properties like I usually did, have an account with them for over 10 years. Tried logging in and it took me to some MFA page saying a code has been sent to my email, enter it to proceed... however no code got sent by them to my email and I don't remember ever setting MFA.

Anyone else experiencing this? The bot they have just told me to check my spam folder which I obviously did and I could not get it touch with a human.

When was the last time you logged on successfully?

Have you changed email since the last time you updated your Trade Me profile? Perhaps they did send a code, but not your current email.

Nah, haven't logged since early 2024 if I remember it right. I never changed my email and I can decypher that it's my own address, even tho they use a couple of ****'s when they claim to send that code.

They seem to be massively delayed sometimes with those codes.

They made emailed code to login enabled for everyone after having no form of 2 factor login for years and years. It's a start I guess, but as the email account can be used to reset the password too, its still 1 factor login with more steps IMO.

Could the account been compromised, and whoever took over it setup the 2FA (although if the email is still the same, this would negate it)?

Tried doing a password reset request, just to see if that email arrives?

Yup, tried to reset my password countless time, logged in a bunch, no email ever comes. I checked filter/forwarding and it all looks normal, no filters, no forwarding. Guess good old real estate agents are the way to go. Been trying for 2 days now.

Wish I could. They make it really hard to talk to a human. Mind sharing the call center phone no?

If it's the same as it used to be, you have to call the 0900 to speak to someone. They do that to limit the calls they get to those that are legitimate enough for the caller to accept a fee to speak to them. My wife used to work on their call centre years ago.
