It's with sadness that I let you all know the passing of @NickMack.

Nick was part of this community for 16 years. He attended almost all our Geekzone live events, anywhere in the country, flying from Christchurch to meet others, enjoying a cigar and whisky in the after-event activities.

He was an important part of Geekzone all this time. His knowledge in the tech area, including telcos was invaluable.

Nick was on holiday overseas, with his wife, when this happened. If you know them on Facebook, R posted a message about with more details.

Nick is someone I am never going to forget.

He met with me to find out what I wanted to do, what I was good at and what my goals were. He is one of the few that has helped me keep my head above water.

We caught up again in Auckland recently and had the same good chin wag.

He was charismatic, funny, knowledgeable and a fantastic person to know.

You will be missed Nick. Thank you for everything.

Worked with Nick a few years ago, and kept in irregular touch.

Was always a really nice guy, and always had time.

Someone who really appreciated life.

Man - what a loss.

I'll regret having never met him, only ever dealing with him on GZ, however my wife worked with him while at 2degrees and colleagues at Spark still kept in regular contact with him.

She let me know yesterday, very sad news.

He'll be missed for sure.

We've been in touch through various forms since the age of bulletin boards. And saw him on lunch walks most recently regularly.

Lost for words.

I originally met Nick (and his wife) on Twitter years ago. He’s always been kind, full of banter and was just happy to hang out. Nick also was a good friend of mine and has helped me through a whole lot - calling me almost daily to check up on me when I was going through hell at a previous job and also vetting my (now wife) to ensure she was right for me.

Nick, you’ll be missed by all. I’m sorry you had to go this early. Thankyou for everything you’ve done and I’m so glad I had the privilege of knowing you. Rest in peace buddy.

Very sad indeed; Don't think I ever met him in person, but got help from him via these forums a couple of times, and found all his posts very helpful. RIP

Big shock to hear this news and very sad day indeed.
I knew him from high school, but got to know him better through Polyvox, Trashcan and the other BBS's back in early 90s.

I have chatted to him a few times over the more recent years, but his only presence shows that he was clearly someone that was deeply involved in the tech community and always ready to lend a hand or advice.

RIP Nick.

Good dude who will be greatly missed and gone way to soon! He only just turned 50.

He was a big part of the snap/2d family and lots of sad people in the office today.

RIP Nick!

I'm sad to say I've only had the chance to share a few beers with him, but he was a bloody good dude from our interactions.

Thank you Mauricio. To others, I am Nick's wife.

Nick always looked forward to his GZ events - I think I joined him in a couple. He was really looking forward to his final one last month and wasn't happy (soz not soz) about me planning a huge surprise 50th the night before!

I may need to call for help in this forum as I navigate how to "operate the house" as Nick has everything wired up/automated up the wazoo. Something I do know I need, is someone to take over Sysop of the Trashcan. It was really important to Nick, and part the legacy he leaves. When the dust settles I'll be back here for help, in the meantime please have a think about if this could be you.

FYI - I am back in NZ but Nick is in the process of repatriation from Indonesia.  Once I know when he'll be back I can plan a funeral,  which will be livestreamed. Then I can start some of these other process. Thank you to everyone who is a member of GZ. His memory will live on here.

Ps I knew about this post as I managed to get into Nick's phone and saw the email notification that he'd been mentioned. It only took me about 20 attempts at the swipe code.  I didn't actually know it,  just recall the movement of his finger out of the corner of my eye.
