Hi,

I need to get a laptop from Auckland to Wanaka over the Christmas/NY period. It looks like most of our courier services (atleast outside of the main centres) shut down over this period.

Has anyone got any recommendations for a service that would cover this off?

Have looked at Urgent, Sub60, Pack & Send, Aramex, NZ Couriers, DHL, Mainfreight.

Mainfreight is looking like the most promising but I've never used them before.

Thanks!

Steer clear of Aramex.    Best service I get is from DHL when I get apple stuff shipped from Ozzy it usually arrives in 1-2 days excellent service,  my local delivery guy is awesome.  I have shipped via Mainfreight before,  usually for larger objects,  have had one item damaged when I went to collect it as the guy dropped it off the forklift.   For smaller stuff i use Pass the Parcel ,  its a good price.   I would be sending by signature on delivery for a laptop to ensure it arrives safely.

I ship quite a lot round the country so probably have slightly more insight - I'd use either Post Haste or NZ Couriers. Both are part of the Freightways group, with NZC being their express courier service.

NZ Post tends to slow down during the December period owing mostly due to increased volume, and Aramex seem to be allergic to the core of their business, which is delivering things.

DHL will usually not do intracountry delivery, neither will FedEx (though DHL Supply Chain will, but is usually slower than NZ Post by a lot).

Hi! I'm TheoM, but you know that already. I run Linux mirrors in NZ together with 2degrees. Like a mirror added? PM me!

Our business has used DHL before for packages within NZ, usually because they will insure high value items easily. Otherwise I find NZ Post as good as it gets.

I would have thought NZ Couriers or NZ Post. Both will be operating on the non-stat-holiday days during the break. Allow a couple of days for delivery but if you send it on the Monday after Christmas, it shoul dbe received on or before the Wednesday. Pay for overnight (NZ Post has a 'standard' option that is two days inter-island).

NZ Couriers is my pick for inter island.

They fly the freight as long as it’s not vast/heavy. I can send stuff to Auckland from Christchurch overnight and it’s usually arrived before lunch next day.

The rest seem to truck it. Way too slow for my standards.
