Hey all,

I’m filling out the rates rebate form and noticed it doesn’t ask for bank details. Do they just credit it straight to your rates account, or do they somehow pay it into your bank automatically?

Anyone recently got theirs and can share how it worked?

It’s credited to your rating account, thus you then pay the balance.

if I’ve already paid my latest rates invoice, is there any way to get the rebate as a direct payment into my bank account instead of just a credit on my rates?

Nope.

it just offsets the next instalment.

Do you pay in full for the year or just the quarter?

  • you could ask your local authority to look at a direct credit if you did pay the full year.

edit

whats your local authority area, check their website for topic or call them, I think they can direct credit if you actually paid the full years rates, but obviously they wouldn’t probally entertain it if you just paid the quarterly installment.

By the way, what happened about the microwave?

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I actually pay my rates in instalments throughout the year, not the full year upfront. The reason I’m asking is I’m a bit short on money right now, so I’d really like the rebate paid straight into my bank account if that’s possible, rather than just offsetting the next instalment. I will see if I have time to go to their office to ask sometime this week.

You can ask them to credit you your rates balance if its in the positive, they can only say no..

Does anyone know what happens to the rates rebate if you are in a retirement village apartment?

Rates, electricity and building insurance are paid by the village fee which is direct debited from my bank account.

edit: I have just fired off an email to the retirement village manager to obtain some details.

The retirement village can give you the details of your 'share' of the rates. My parents were given this info at their village. I guess you can then claim against your share. Father was in the process of sorting this out last week.

Heard back from my village manager this morning: You can apply once you have been here over six months and we receive the rebate form from head office.

I also found a form "Retirement village resident rates rebate certificate" which shows that the rebate can be paid into your bank account.

I wonder whether they would have told you if you hadn't asked about it. What about other residents who aren't so on-the-ball?
