I drive a highly modified high horse power V8, not overly loud and not overly obvious from the outside. Pulled up to my local NPD to fill up in the week, in the forecourt was a Nissan Leaf with Grandma & Granddad in it (not mine I might add), next thing Granny has made a beeline for me and starts ranting an raving about us youth (I'm 62 !! - I smiled ) and our noisy (Its actually less then 98db at full song) petrol guzzling horrendous boy racer cars , she proper told me off for as long as it took to fill up. She then without breaking stride asked me where the charging point was , the 62 year old youth in me politely indicated where the charging points were and asked if she needed a hand to connect her car , where upon she launched into a tirade about disrepectful youth ........I got in my car and calmly drove off until I started laughing so much I had to pull over.

Made my day that run in with Granny.

Good on you for still helping her out with her EV charging. As you rightly did so IMO, just laugh the interaction off. Poor husband though..

sadly that sounds like dementia kicking in. had a relative that did similar, tho not quite as bad.

I’ve always found young males very helpful when I’ve had flat tyres or putting air in tyres. Kudos to you for being polite and well mannered under the circumstances. Granny is lucky she didn’t encounter a psycho one that might have floored her to possibly to the resounding cheers of grandad.

Good job Sir. I have respect for people who can see a situation for what it is and someone who doesn't take every opportunity to let people know when they are wrong, especially when it won't change anything.

I have the view of helping the elderly, that I'd do for them what I hope someone would do for elderly relatives and me (when it comes the time), if I wasn't there to do it for them.

My son mows our elderly neighbours lawn, refuses payment for it, and is occasionally rewarded with veges from her garden or flowers.

Wait a minute. Are some of you saying that "elderly" can disrespect others just because they're "elderly"?

Because the way I see it, respect is a two-way thing.

I drove off very sedately , I think I was inwardly holding the high ground while I might of admired her - She had no clue who I was , what I was or what I might do - thats pretty gutsy .

Everyones entitled to an opinion , the clever part is how you get to deliver that opinion.

I'm just chuffed that at 62 I'm considered a "youth".

Interesting that you think it is not overly loud and then mention a figure that looks on the limit for motorsport at race tracks in NZ

In similar vein, a few of years ago whilst at a restaurant with friends a youngish woman at an adjoining table wanted to know what I was "staring at", and something along the lines of minding my own business and shouldn't make judgments etc etc.

Seeing that she was obviously "with" another women I thought to myself perhaps she thought I was in some way condemning such a couple (I was then in my mid-60's), and simply returned to the talk at my table.

The irony was that long-time friends (I worked with one of them at the time), dining with us were in fact a gay/lesbian couple ... I must add that the 'offended' woman did approach when leaving and apologised for being rude.

It passes trackday limits at my local track which apparently is 95dbm , so its maybe a little quieter than I remember , its quite a deep rumble not a bark.

Encounters with threatening and aggressive nutters appears to have become part of normal life in New Zealand. I just ignore them and let them rant as they usually calm down once they've been given the chance to release their anger. Engaging with them tends to just escalate the situation.

Obviously call the police if they become physically violent.

I don't generally pout Grannies in the threatening category. Sure, they can be aggressive in their ineffectual way, but they aren't endangering anyone.
