Hey guys,

i've been watching the forums lately and have noticed that there are quite a number of us who are unhappy with the way that trademe has been going lately so i was just wondering if we could all just list down some of the things that we've found troublesome about trademe.

since i started this tread i guess it's fair for me to start then. the thing that i don't like about trademe is the way that the whole system is based on feedback. An example of this would be if a person has 10,000 sales done and 2% of their feedback is negative, that's still 200 people who have been stuffed but all we see is the percentage.

what do you guys think?

Seems OK to me.  10,000 sales means a lot more sales to go wrong.  It's no different to having 100 sales but "only" stuffing up 2.  That means there are 9,800 people who aren't complaining.  That's a lot!

You can still click on their feedback and go through and look at every comment left, including bad feedback. If I am spending more than a coupe of hundred dollars I always read through the past 6 months of feedback to make sure I'm not likely to encounter any problems.

The one thing I do not like is that any ahole can leave bad feedback for you regardless of whether you have delivered goods/payment as promised and trademe will not do anything about it.

The feedback system can bite you. I have two bad feedbacks both from suspended users yet these feedbacks remain although the users have been banned from Trademe.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

To be honest, I very rarely look at feedback, unless it's high value (> $500). Maybe that's a problem, but I've not been burnt (touch wood) by anyone on TradeMe... yet.

true, so i guess in a way it's kinda like a lotto... 2% chance of getting screwed! lol. i also saw this thing about how trademe was "bullying" this other start-up auction site just because the T&C of that site was quite similar to that of trademe's.

let's say that a perfect online shopping site existed, what do you guys think the features of such a website would be? for me i think one of the main things is that we know the background of the people that are selling their goods, so if anything goes wrong, at least we have someone to go back to. unlike that of trademe where we dont' really get any warranties for the goods that we purchase. well, even if we do i think they are all manufacturer warranties and we have to send them back to places like china...

For Trade Me property, photos would be decent, there would be plenty of different well lit shots, and you could compare the properties by specific things, like floor size, location etc.

Main weakness, the shoddy picture quality and the extra charging to have a gallery picture or multiple pictures, back in the old days users could "run with the default" which from memory were a larger size anyway or they had the choice of linking to their own hosted high quality images.

I also find their support and assistance with problems and "policing" the traders whom are causing hassles to other users to be utterly hopeless.

If the trader has been permanently removed from the site Trade Me will remove the bad feedback placed on you at your request. Email them.

picture quality a big issue could be the sites graphics or poor photography of the sellers.
considering the number of successful sales I think trademe is set up well most problems coming from those not understanding the rules.

I have had an auction removed by trade me becasue I refused to open a sealed iphone because they wanted proof of possesion with photos of it in front of a nz or aus paper
when I have well over a hundred trades with 100% positive feedback
How is that fair has any one else had this problem or just me :(

Shrink wrapping is easy to do, and i'm sure it has been done. (Shrink wrapping of any empty box that is)

Even though your feedback was good, what if your account had been compromised? Or a dodgy family member had jumped on (Again, it's bound to have happened).

New is new - Taking off the shrink wrap doesnt make it any less new, but it does make for a much safer online buying experience.

that's lame and pretty much what I have come to expect from them. I have often had auctions removed for "breaching terms and conditions " with utterly no indication of the "problem"

Funny they seem to "miss" all those /!\new traders selling plasmas.
