Counterfeit goods are so widespread on trademe. I often tell trademe who the sellers are that are selling counterfeit goods but they still do nothing to stop it.

I first brought a Olympus 512mb xD card from a trader (memoricards). When I received the item it came with no packaging and the card did not seem up to the high quality that you should expect from a top brand like Olympus nor did it have a serial number that is used to see if it is genuine of not.

So just to be sure it was counterfeit. I sent it away to Olympus for them to check if it was counterfeit of not and after a few weeks they replied saying it was. So I reported to trademe with the message from Olympus saying that it was counterfeit but yet trademe still does nothing to stop it even though it is against their terms and conditions and the New Zealand Law.

I'm not mad at the trader. I am just really mad with Trade Me as they have the power to do something but don't.

Someone really needs to take trademe to court as they are committing an offence by not responding when they are in full knowledge that it is happening. I would even take them to court (Maybe when I finish my law degree in 2 more years). (Sorry for bad spelling and grammar)

Your comments on counterfeit items would be great and any advice on what to do next.

I purchased some Braun Oral-B brush heads off a trader on Trademe a few months ago, and yes they were not genuine. Looked at e-bay's pages showing how to tell if good are counterfeit, and sure enough the Oral-B logo scratched of easily along with the other tell tale signs.

I ended up just keeping them and using them as there was not much I could do given the price I paid for them.

Not much trademe can do, I'm sure they are swamped by tons of such cases.

It's a case of "buyer beware". Check their feedback and ask the seller about their products.

Tradme CAN do something. They can ban the account selling counterfeit goods, thay can provide details of the sellers to the relevant companies and in big cases they can notify the police.

Trademe probably choose to ignore it as its more hassle than its worth and is more revenue for them.

Trademe do ban goods - Dreambox STB's are an example because virtually all Dreambox's are cheap Chinese clones and TM have claimed these are breaching IP rights.

I guess their problem is a huge % of what is sold is fake or potentially fake - how do you really go about enforcing this since you're not seeing the phyisical product?

I got a Sandisk SD card from a seller on trademe, and from the packaging, it looked very genuine, but the SD card itself was missing the hologram and the serial number that is printed on all Sandisk cards. I contacted the seller and arranged a refund. The seller gave no explanation. I alerted Trademe and Sandisk and never heard anything either.

From now on, I only purchase memory cards from the usual outlets.

I brought some oral-b brushes off trademe I believe were not the genuine article as well. They were better, and lasted longer than the ones from the supermarket. Unfortunately, the seller has stopped selling them.

After those were used, I brought some more off trademe (different seller) that unfortunately were counterfeit, and, did not last as long.

They still cleaned teeth ok though...

Its not up to trademe to enforce other companies IP rights.

i bought a pair of sennehieser earphones from trade me recently, as per the auction i thought it was authentic and genuine, once i used them i realized mayb its a counterfeit as i had also purchased the same headphone over Amazon.com a few months back and i could tell the difference between the earphones..... surprisingly the packaging for both was exactly the same so if it was a counterfeit product i bought i really didn't know...........

As I mentioned above, Ebay has a few pages on their website showing you how to tell if something is counterfeit or not. And there are other resources on the web for the same.

Do some homework and then hit the seller up for a refund if you suspect they are not authentic. And although you are asking for negative feedback back, leave a comment to that affect against their profile. But you'll want to be sure you think they are counterfeit before you do this.

I purchased 2 mouse pads off Trademe, they were meant to be Steelseries, thought they were a little cheap, but they turned out to be Fake, went to complain about person to Trademe, but they had there account suspended, so was happy :) but yes there is a problem on Trademe with Counterfeit goods.
