I am courious as what people think could or can be achived in a lifetime with unlimited money and resources either in the medical, scientific or technology area. Not necessarily sci-fi, I mean real therorically possible. Examples - JFK declaring (after Gregaren's 1st manned space flight) that the US would be first to the moon. Or the Large Hadron Collider. Or say a computer that plugs into your brain to experiance a virtual reality.

Mine would be why do we have long periods of peace and harmony, then all of sudden, we get a complete nutter come of the woodworks, and post random rants on Geekzone?

... and why do people bother to spam here when we bannination them from the realm reasonably quickly?

/ends mod rant.

Depends on if you beleive in exponential technological growth followed by diminishing returns (and at what point you believe this will take place) or just exponential growth.

See:
- Technological singularity for a viewpoint on exponential growth
- The Collapse of Complex Societies by J Tainter. Although this is specifically dealing with sociological complexity this is strongly linked to technological complexity and some of the same rationals can be applied.

A way to live sustainably and in harmony with the planet that doesn't involve killing most of the human population to get it back to a reasonable size.
