No doubt you've read in the news or seen on tv, Sir John Walker receiving the new title today.

Great work, I've known about him since I was a kid, and he's also from my area (Manurewa).  Couldn't have gone to a more deserving kiwi.

Congrats Sir John!

ditto to that re Sir John. Definitely a worthy recipient.
And in more general terms, I'm pleased that "we" have brought back the titles "Sir" & "Dame".

kind regards Andrew TD

Another ponce takes a "Sir" title. What happened to the 21st century and the move away from being a colony??

So someone who has achieved excellence in running, worked 15 years for the council, plus has started a charitable trust to decrease the number vagrants in my area from vandalising my property and stealing my car by putting them into sport is a ponce?

John has more than achieved that title.  I'm glad they have been reinstated.  It gives credit to those who have gone the extra (sub four minutes) mile in society, and gives the rest of us something to aspire to.

I am all for the return to titles in New Zealand, especially as the majority are for New Zealander's who have really achieved to a great level in one aspect of their lives. There is a bit of an issue in England where you can "buy" a title if you donate enough to the right political party but over here for the most part I think they are deserved.
