I'm looking for a jingle that's played on the radio for quite some time now - not sure if it's still playing now. It's a road safety one that goes something like "....drive to the conditions....reduce your speed..." or something like that. Quite an annoying almost-monotonic jingle.

I seem to recall there's a website somewhere that has a lot of NZ radio jingles - can someone remember that? or perhaps know where I can find this ad online?

Cheers,
D.

I know that one your talking about, it sounds like a 'hot to prop' jingle which were used by RNZ commercial stations in the 80's / early 90's - some are even still running today.

You can check out some old time radio stuff on www.theradiovault.net some newer stuff on www.somethingradio.co.nz

that particular jingle has been changed a few times now, firstly it was was quite robotic and now seems to be almost sung. Thanks for the links, I possibly have the road reduce jingle among some streams but have neither the time or resources to look sorry.

I think those ads are funded by ACC.

I actually think the message is stupid anyway - adjust would be a far better suited word than reduce.

Well, here's a reason why I asked...

When we were in Norway we met someone who spent 6 months in NZ driving around in a dodgy van with only a radio - unfortunately that jingle was so annoying it was all they could remember of NZ radio! Just thought I'd find a copy of the jingle and send it to them :o)

Wow, that's brilliant Tom! I will PM you his address - would you mind attaching a short message to go with it please? Or if you can send me the jingle I can forward it to him?

Thanks again.

AHA! the culprit!  so if the conditions change you reduce your spped huh?  What if is has been pelting down with rain and suddenly becomes sunny?

That jingle has always annoyed me because of that one reason!

May the lord have mercy on your soul misleading jingle writer man Laughing

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life.  What are the chances of that like?

done and done... sent to the Norwegian contingent

Apologies it is so annoying - brief was to get something quickly into the national consciousness as they were only going to play it for three months - ended up working too well and they played it for 15 months... so sorry... Highly effective but not the work of which I'm proudest!!

I've always wondered this: If you're driving in bad conditions, and you've already lowered your speed accordingly, what if the conditions change for the better? Should you reduce your speed even further? :P

Oh dear lord this song is now stuck in my head. I would have to say unfortunately it seems Tom did a darn good job in making a catchy jingle we are unlikely to forget

Mate, you're not the only one who wondered about this - I think by now we've all realised the ditty could be done much better in oh-so-many ways :o)
