High school Japanese here, I don't know the chinese characters but:

1st photo
Bottom round button is menu
Right rocker switch says 'scale' on top, 'page' on bottom.

2nd photo
Text in blue above the top round button says 'television/video' ( a toggle I guess).

For the rest of the buttons anyone who can read any chinese can get the rest.

Japanese is a mix of 3 scripts, 1 mainly used for loan words (Katakana) , and 1 based on part of the chinese character set mainly nouns and verbs (kanji), there is also Hiragana used for particles, and tense and can be used to make kanji words into phonics, for those who cannot read the symbol,

The yellow button is power

Above that is something called "map switch"
 above that is menu

and at the top is "current position"

on the other side the big button is scroll

below that is "funtion switch"

On the second photo, the top on is "Return", while the knob is marked, "execute"

The toggle, is Television/ Navi ( not video)

Thanks, will burn one and see what happens but from some Russian based sites Ive read, it might not actually play DVDs which is odd... but will play SVCD - the DVD aspect is only for the maps which are no use.... fingers crossed :)
